This year marks the third annual QEII Canvas, a celebration of art and community at the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre (QEIIMC). QEII Canvas aims to showcase the diversity and beauty of the campus through a range of creative projects.
Public art at the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre (QEIIMC) embraces and celebrates the cultural diversity of the patients, visitors and staff it serves. Commissioned artworks represent and honour different cultural traditions, fostering inclusivity and ensuring that patients, visitors and staff from various backgrounds feel welcomed and represented.
All public art on site adheres to the 4 curatorial themes outlined in the QEIIMC Trust Public Art Strategy:
In 2024, the Trust held a week long art event that engaged prominent Western Australian artists to create large-scale murals across the campus. Five vibrant murals were installed, bringing colour to the campus and highlighting the natural beauty.
In 2025, a community designed rock mural was added to the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Physiotherapy Courtyard. This artwork was centred around the culture and people who visit, work and heal across the 28-hectare campus.
The focus for 2026 is on sculptures. The QEIIMC Trust commissioned a West Australian artist to create a memorable and engaging sculptural trail, with the aim to enhance healing while contributing to wayfinding on the campus.

For QEII Canvas 2026, Voytek created a series of striking metal sculptures depicting the Red‑tailed Black Cockatoos (Kaarak) that inhabit the QEIIMC precinct. These pieces honour the local environment and form the heart of this year’s sculptural trail. Voytek also designed a Southwestern Long‑necked Turtle (Yakkan) sculpture, which has become the newest addition to the QEII Trust’s growing and much‑loved Turtle Trail.
The QEII sculptures are now installed and sitting proudly down Hospital Avenue. Each piece was handcrafted by our featured artist, Voytek Kozlowski, who transformed metal into stunning forms inspired by nature.
Take a look at the images below to follow the journey, from early fabrication through to the emerging silhouettes that now stand tall on the QEII Campus.

Two (2) additional Red‑tailed Black Cockatoos (Kaarak) will join the flock after scheduled civil works have been completed in front of E Block later this year.
The Southwestern Long‑necked Turtle (Yakkan) sculpture has joined the much‑loved Turtle Trail, with a permanent home atop a lily pad in the J Block Courtyard.
